“Self Back-Pats”

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki says President Obama doesn’t give himself enough credit for his foreign policy accomplishments.

Suppose an NFL coach loses 56-0. In her way of thinking, it’s okay: the losing team showed up at the stadium on time, the head coach successfully attached his headset to his head, the coaches all wore the same polo shirts, and the team made it out of the locker room for the second half “on-time.” It “engaged” in playing football.

In Psaki’s mind, results don’t matter: “engaging” in foreign policy does, no matter what the final outcome.
