In August 2007, Jimmy began trying out for travel baseball teams. He eventually landed in Prospect with a 13-U team and caught the attention of the Prospect American Legion Post 368 coach Lanny Martin. Jimmy played travel ball there from 2008 to 2010 and in Columbus in 2001 and 2012, while taking off the summer of 2013. Last night, he was added to the Prospect American Legion Post 368 team as a last-minute replacement.
Now, one more time, Jimmy will get to play with his best friends from River Valley, Elgin, Pleasant, and other schools. I will be the announcer. I was going to be, even if he didn’t play for Prospect. But on Saturday June 7, before their home opener, Jimmy will take his place along the first base line with his Prospect teammates, as the national anthem is played by the late great Fenway Park organist John Kiley.
His dream has come true. I guess, so has mine.
