“Campus Hooligans and the First Amendment”

The next time a college or university invites a noteworthy person to be its commencement speaker, that person should insist on a $25,000-$50,000 “Disinvite Clause.” Here’s how it would work: if the college or university decides to disinvite the speaker because of “internal pressures” (aka “political correctness”), it must pay him or her $25,000-$50,000 to get out of the deal. The money would compensate the speaker for damage to his or her reputation caused by intolerant, anti-free speech, campus hooligans.

If, as it is often said by supporters of a strong military, “freedom isn’t free,” then wanton attacks on free speech ought not to be either.
